Hi Gintonic, five days is too short a time to say whether the hornbills have left for good. One possibility is that the female has now begun nesting (the season is normally December or January through to April), whereby the male would then stay fairly close to the nest site. Another possibility is that they might have moved to a different area. Please bear in mind that hornbills can fly long distances, and may move to a new area where fruit trees happen to be bearing fruit.

Hi need your expert advice: I live in bukit timah in a high rise condo and everyday over the past 6-7 months, a pair of gorgeous hornbills hv been visiting me and my Neighbour for food. We are awfully distressed that they hv not appeared for the past 5 days!!! What could have possibly happened? It appears they hv their genealogy mapped but do they return to previous nest boxes if they wanted to breed? Please throw some light on this for me!

Dear Joanna,

I believe you may be looking for the restaurant located at Capella in Sentosa.
You may reach them at http://www.capellahotels.com/singapore/contact-en.html.

For your information, this is the newsletter for NParks. If you are keen on dining at any of the F and B outlets in our parks, I would be happy to direct you to them.

If you are looking for the Vineyard, their contact details are available at at http://www.vineyardhortpark.com.sg/, or call 6479 7977.

Hi Vince, Yes, herbs can be grown successfully in gardens, but it will depend on what herbs and where you intend to grow them.

Based on the information on doing your own compost, it seems that aeration is necessary. I am trying to make my own compost (vegatable scraps, grass cuttings, egg shell, orange peel, etc) but the fruit scraps seems to be giving out moisture. My bin does not have aeration holes although it does have a lid so I know the moisture is not from rain water. Do I need to remove the moisture? Thanks.
